Storm

finally i get the chance to blog
the presentation last fri was good!!
although i couldnt answer one or two of the questions the prof asked,
he did say there was an improvement and thank heavens he was in good mood
joanna's one wasnt so smooth but he took the patience to explain to her
hope she didnt feel too bad about it
this week i gotta start on the new research project but with that damn typhoon raging outside how the heck am i supposed to get to the library?

oh and sat we went to 士林夜市,
the very same one that sells the chicken cutlet and mee sua back in sg
you'd be surprised at the amount and types of food, not to mention branded goods also
but but but whether if its genuine or not,well....thats another story
anyway,here are the photos
the famous 胡椒饼,took me and adrian to queue for half hour before we got 3

just a family of 3 manning the store but i can assure you they earn tens of thousands a night (i mean NT not SGD XD)

冰糖胡!! those with a sweet tooth,i'm sure you will love it

we only bought a stick of the strawberries one and joanna had the honour of eating the first
this are some pictures of the main 夜市

最有名的士林炸鸡排,as big as her face!!! not to mention cheap too XD

barbecued stuff...somewhat like teppanyaki but they use the good ol' charcoal and grill instead

God knows where i was looking, cant remember why i wasnt looking at the camera anyway XD

Speaking of God, look what we found
a taiwanese band singing amazing grace in hokkien XD
not kidding, haha
the stage's made outta a made-shift van
these guys are really devoted, peforming in the strong rain and wind
wished i could play the electric guitar as well as em, even a little i would be contented
i made a solemn promise to myself to learn how to play it well when i get back
blargh, its five months away and here i am already thinking about this...stupid me

oh yeah, when i get a little bored or down here
i will watch the mind your language on youtube
its that show back from the 1970s
and i will laugh my head off like a mad person
or at least thats what my friends said about me XD
and i've also taken quite an interest in the song storm by lifehouse
hence the title for this post

to my cg members,
i finally went to the new life church here in taipei
didnt take pictures cause i arrived there just on the dot after like getting lost a couple of times
you wouldnt believe it but i cudda sworn that place looks like an underground pub from the outside and there's even something like a bar inside
at least that was what it looked like since i only saw it and didnt ask about it
the washroom has a sink that...i didnt know how to use haha
its not the usual you see in public places and it took me a few minutes to figure out how the mechanism works
will update you guys with the pictures another time

well, back to work
here we go again

A World That Defies Logic

been a long week with all the research
studying reports, looking up all sorta reference books and scouring the web for info...
right now its at 3am in the morning
and i still havent finished preparing for my presentation later
it can get pretty stressful when you have to give a uni professor a presentation every week on a topic he can prolly chant with his eyes closed and meet his expectations simultaneously,
let alone impress him
thats not the end yet, i was given another new research topic today by one of the seniors
and this one is gonna need even more researching than all the previous ones
which means i'm gonna be seein the NTU (not the one in sg XD) library across the street more often these days

mk, ad and jo went to play basketball in the evening earlier
apparently the game seemed to mean a lot to someone cause he/she was pretty stressed too
at least that was what it looked like to me
and i felt so bad for not joining 'em cause i went to sleep
i was feeling so tired from the lack of sleep this whole week,
sleeping only like 4+ hours everyday
didnt want to risk KO-ing cause i felt a little dizzy this afternoon and i still had a lot to do
i wont make any excuses and for that all i can say is i'm awfully sorry

surface tension= a + b+ c
where
a is the stress,
b is the time and,
c is gg-fication

So Scared

Tomorrow's the start of another tiring week
last week's presentation was very bad
in fact, it was so bad i felt kinda like a lost kid
but i just hope this week's one will be better with all the effort i've put in

this week we went to somewhere close to the city centre
at least thats what THEY told me
behold...taipei 101, the tallest building in the world
at least, for now
we did go up that tower but rest of my friends havent passed me the photos yet
if you're wondering, its not free!!! gotta pay around SGD$20 just to go up but its a once in a lifetime experience
oh yeah, inside i tell you those who love shopping,
you will definitely love it there...but it might not be so healthy for your bank accountXD
all the famous brands there..Bvlgari, LV,Ralph Lauren,Chanel,Gucci,Omega and many more i cant remember
even the food (apart from mac) there is like what the malaysians say 够力,够力
i only got some photos of the night view there
a view of the tower from the inside
so i'll prolly go upload it on the next post or something
anyway, before that we went to the 国父记念馆 near the city hall of taipei
yeah like the name of the memorial, its to remember one of their forefathers, Sun Yet Sen
i think he's the founder of taiwan or something like that
never went to pay attention to the details XD
here's him
not to mention the guards who stand guard in front of him
they switch shifts every hour after a kinda parade
looks like some wax model huh? but its a real person!!
soldiers marching in to switch shifts
their navy, military and air force take turns to do the shifts
i think the ones in green are military but not too sure about those in blue
dont ask me why but i noticed their helmets and bayonets seemed surprisingly shiny XD
more pictures of mr sun

i got lazy after that so no more
but here are other random pictures
those 3 always walking around so fast, dunno whether did they even look at the artifacts haha
this's the laws and principles for the reconstruction of the taiwanese government
hmmm...somewhat like the mao zedong's principles for the chinese people if you will
but this is the taiwanese version of it
and if you browse through it, you will see majority of it are for in favour of the people (为了人民)
after staring at that piece of tablet for 10 mins and finished reading only 8 outta the 18 or 19 of em, i gave up XD

just 3 weeks only and here i'm already missing...someone
but i guess she prolly doesnt feel the same way anymore
i suppose when you dunno what's gonna happen and keep thinking of the countless...scenarios that can happen
will scare even the strongest man on earth
for the past weeks i've been troubled by something related to it and unfortunately, i still am
thats the reason why i didnt go out with my poly mates on fri night and today
sorry guys,i was just....wasnt in the right mood to go out
besides, an even number of people is easier to handle when you're out eating
and one less person prolly wouldnt have made a difference anyway

holding on is hard but letting go is even tougher

When Angels Fly Away

again sorry for not updating for this few days
the internet has been down in my dorm until just recently
and i was pretty down with my results for the past sem
i try my best not to show it
but i'll get over it in a few days...well,hopefully

anyway, can you imagine cooped up in a room with nothing to do for almost 72 hours?!
if that doesnt drive you nuts,
maybe a couple of children running around and screaming ought to do the trick (for my case) XD
oh and if you're wondering why i was stuck in my dorm,
there was a typhoon named like sinlaku or sinluka or something like that runnin around
the raining was pouring on and off together with the strong winds
if you cant imagine how strong the winds were,
think about shrubs being uprooted which was what happened to my school ones
at least it didnt reach the stage where you see cars flying around XD
Thank God it changed direction and its headed to somewhere else in the pacific ocean

my presentation yesterday...well,i dunno if it was something good or bad
the prof said i my presentation had a lot of details,
and the part i explained on the CCD chip, he was completely clueless
but at least he said "既然你有做你的研究,我相信应该是对的吧"
i've got another one on friday
this time i gotta finish reading up a report
and if it couldnt get any worse, an online reference book on surface tension in CHINESE!!!
while i was reading it today, i finally gave up and tried using an online translator
even so, the english was kinda inaccurate
not to mention i havent finished this...
just hope i can finish 'em in time =(
oh yeah, if you need to reach me via my phone
number's 0983131546

every tear i cried, You hold in your hand
you've never left my side though my heart is torn

海阔天空

sorry to all ya loyal readers out there for not blogging this past few days
been really busy with preparing for my presentation this comin mon
as if the release last sem results on the same day ain't enough
and if you're wondering, yes the title is a very old song by beyond back in the 80s XD

yeap, i finally met my prof in charge this week back on tues i think
i was quite intimidated at first...
i mean after all, i'm just a poly student and he's a university prof.
he turned outta be quite a nice guy...at least for now.
for this whole week,
i've been in the lab doing my presentation slides and reading reports along with joanna
its really tough to just dive into something you completely have no idea about
unlike when in poly, there's really no-spoon feeding here
you either make it or you break it
then after that, all five of us have been heading to the pool room,撞球室 (direct translation so pardon me if it sounds weird),
as in pool with the cue and balls not the swimming pool although there's an indoor one XD
i'm still trying to hone my pool skills playing with the pros li jiong and mk
*smack forehead* i forgot to take pictures of the pool room, will take it next time =)

enough talk, here are some pictures for the foodies out there XD
we didnt really go out these few days so the pictures were all taken in school haha
one of joanna's lunch this week; jap curry beef with rice wrapped in egg

beef noodles!!!the bowl was larger than the size of my face so can you imagine how big it was?XD

jap curry ramen, delicious!!!

the two jap food are from my school canteen but the beef noodles are from NTU which is not too far, just across the street

one of our seniors bought this from a stall nearby yesterday i think,
this is called golden cow horns (金牛角)
looks a little like croissants if you ask me but it had a strong butter taste
quite tough on the outside but pretty soft on the inside

wait, wait there's more!!!
there are 7-11s in our school
wait till you see what they sell...

cornflakes!! quite attractive packaging huh XD

you aint seeing things, its really huge!! i think its like 750ml or one litre and it only costs like SGD$3. ta ta ta ta XD
no worries, i havent been drinking
i'm not exactly a good drinker like some people i know
not part of my lifestyle and i dont intend to start it anyway

zomg, all the different sizes and types of vitagen-like drinks
who's got constipation? XD
next is my favourite!!
yup, starbucks coffee!! around SGD$3.25
dont worry elyn, i havent even touched coffee for almost a week
quite a miracle dont you think? given my beyond hope coffee addiction in the past
alright thats all i have for food in this post

before i forget, here's a picture of 小黑
not too sure if its a he or she but it guards the entrance to the gals dorm
very obedient to the security guards and quiet too
speaking of which, there are many dogs around the school
they are all very quiet and dont go runnin around barking at others like the dogs in s'pore (oops, no offence to the dog owners...esp chris XD)

before i go, there's a typhoon hittin taipei on the 14th according to the news
already earlier the wind was unusually strong and the rain was like on and off
*1980s drama on the deathbed voice* if i might die here in taipei, know that i love all of you
you people know who you are!! XD

oh, for the sake of those who dunno who's joanna..i think you refer to some of the previous posts to see her picture and she's also the one named shangying who tags on my blog
dunno why she didnt want to use her ang moh mia when she tags *scratches head*

anyway, i'm having question marks all over when i talked to the prof in mandarin
so i prolly need to polish up on my mandarin so i'm trying to do everything as cheena as possible
read chinese books, listen to chinese music and er...thats about it
if possible talk to me on msn in mandarin
and i'm giving you guys the honour of scolding me if i reply you in ang moh when you talk to me in mandarin XD

back to doin work...see ya!! =)

Indestructible

been quite a slack day
i headed back for nap after lunch and guess what?
there was an EARTHQUAKE!!!
according to my friends..or rather ms joanna wang,it only lasted like 2 sec
you must be wondering why i used "according to..." and not me
i didnt exactly feel the tremor cause i was sleeping
i was so tired for some reason
and not to mention me being a heavy sleeper...
i was sleeping like a P-I-G *oink oink* XD
doubt it woulda made any difference even if it lasted a min

this sounds weird but i'd like o experience a real earthquake one day
of cause, something minor and not like those can cause tsunamis

Y is play

Fear Of The Dark

today i spend the first few hours of my new sem really studying
supposedly it was supposed to start last week but we've been slacking
cause we havent found the course we wanted to do and ended up exploring the school or around taipei

as i mentioned in my previous post i chose surface tension with joanna
yeap, so we spend about 2 hours reading some reference book which proved somewhat too chim
and another 3 hours after lunch watching two seniors do their experiments
both experiments were kinda time consuming considering they only finished like a quarter to half when we left
sheesh...who knows when they finished?
i took a pic of the second experiment
its pretty cool when the senior dropped a drop of water onto a substance called surfactant
the water repelled from it!!!
he showed us a couple of videos showing how the water will react
there are some that repelled,
others will change the shape of the puddle of surfactant
yeah literally like from a circle, the whole puddle moves to just a corner
i havent got a video of it but i'll show you guys if i managed to get my hands on it

after coming back from dinner for one or two hours,
i decided to go for a run
yeap, the usual "oily" feeling came back again XD
considering i havent exercised for more than 2 weeks
and all that unhealthy food i've been eating
at first i saw adrian running and he said he just came back from the NTU side
i was ti ki and wanted to run around our school instead

digressing a little bit
oh, if you still dont know which uni i'm attached to, its NTUST not NTU
and here's the address if you need to mail me anything:
National Taiwan University of Science & Technology
43 Keelung Road
Taipei, 106, Taiwan
Dormitory 1, Room C126
i havent got a prepaid card for my phone yet cause i gotta wait for one of the seniors to get it for us
so please dont call me yet..unless you wanna pay a bomb XD
but i'll call you guys when i get the chance

back to where i was running,
scared the crap outta me when i ran past a cemetary earlier
i tell you i was so scared i was praying when i ran past it
here's a self drawn map of it
the arrow's where i ran
oh yeah, people were also kinda staring me when i ran past them
they looked like they had a big "?" on top of their heads
i think i'm watching too much anime XD
but anyway, they looked surprised
speaking of it, i never seen people jogging along the streets hmmm....
the distance was quite long
i think i ran around 2+ to 3 km
the elementary school looked kinda abandoned,
i mean there were like broken windows and the front porch looked like full of weeds
i actually had an erie feeling when i ran past it already but i thought it was just me
cause the streets were surprisingly getting quieter and quieter
low and behold,
when i turned into the street between the school and cemetary (i still didnt know there was a cemetary yet),
6 outta 13 street lamps were down but i just kept goin on
...until i saw the cemetary on the opposite
then i was thinking to myself, "crap!!! run faster run faster!!"
it gets kinda scary when you're not familiar with area and the only things you hear are your footsteps, breathing and the wind
worst of all, at the end of the street was a dead end!!!
SHIIIIITTT!!!!
i had to make a detour and take my chances through a narrow street (looked more like a wide alley actually)
but thank God it lead back to the school
i dont wanna imagine what will happen if it had led me to another place

HOME!!! I WANNA GO HOME!!! :(

our dorm has been having quite a nostalgia for old music
we've been like turning on those music through our laptop speakers loud enough to fill the room
i thought mine was like the oldest songs one could listen to in this day and age
with those like michael learns to rock, eagles, scorpions, beyond and even 刘德华
seems mk beat me to that record, he has really super duper old antique music all the way back as far as the 1920s
elvis presley and the beach boys, many others i cant remember

the five of us went to a birkenstock store yesterday somewhere just opposite our school
oh yeah, you can see joanna's eyes lit up when we went in
from what they say, its a lot cheaper here in taiwan compared to back home
the cost was around SGD$60 but there were ex ones also like SGD$130 and above
it didnt really surprise me when i didnt know what that brand was
(F.Y.I. if you're a noob like me on such stuff, birkenstock is actually a brand of slippers)

partly cause i also rarely have the chance to spend money on branded goods
when it comes to stuff like that,
i only can use the money i saved to buy anything else outside of our my daily meals
make no mistake about it, my mom doesn't give me extra money to buy such stuff
those of you who can ask your parents to get you things that you want,
like getting a car,
extra money when going out with your friends,
you might not think its much, but count your blessings
i dont even get any extra money except for my daily allowance
for that very same reason, you see me somewhat stingy at times.
i know i know
some of you might disagree with my methods of saving up on money.
to some of you, looks are probably more important so you spend more on fashion
but looking decent is enough for me.
i dont see the need to wear branded goods all over...at least thats for me
(thats prolly why you see me in tees, jeans and slippers when i go to school most of the time XD)
some might say they want to look good
everyone has their reasons so who am i to judge?

i know i promised some pictures from my dorm in the previous post
but i'm just too lazy to take anymore photos so i'm takin it from adrian's blog XD
sorry bro!!
quite cui right?
but aiya onglee six months, wont die la

lemme recall where did we go for the past few days...
argh, my memory really is failing me
i think i need to get an organiser soon...
oh yes, we went to the taipei zoo
this is the entrance

this is the tram we took to the first section of the zoo
the zoo is uber huge, nothing like those those in sg
we spent like 3 to 4 hrs and only walked around the mammals and reptiles area
there's another 3 sections i think, we will prolly go again some other day when we get our student card
you ask why?
cause its only NT$5 if you're a student which is only like SGD$0.25!!!
here are some pics i took and we also took a cable car to get to the zoo!!
all the different types of er...dung outside the toiletXD

yup, thats about it
sorry if you were expecting pictures of animals but i was too lazy to take any of 'em
besides, they said NO cameras
i'll prolly try the next time, ya know..test the system XD

thats about it for today
gotta get up early for some reference book reading on surface tension tomorrow
see ya!! =)

when your soul's grown cold and all hope has run dry...
